Recently, my husband's employer laid off 1/3 of the staff. Thank goodness he wasn't one of them. But for those who now find themselves looking for a job, I have a suggestion. Besides having someone critique your resume, it would be wise to Google your name (or Yahoo! it, etc.) to see what information is floating around out there about you. What will your future employer discover from the Google search? You might be surprised! So, go ahead--search for your name, perhaps your email address(es), just to be safe. If you find something you wouldn't want others to see, take care of it now before you begin applying for a new job.
